Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. is an Italianbrand and manufacturer of luxury sports carsand SUVs based in Sant'Agata Bolognese and tractors Lamborghini Trattori in Pieve di Cento, Italy. The company is owned by the Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, an Italian manufacturing magnate, founded Automobili Ferruccio Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963 to compete with established marques, including Ferrari. 

The company gained wide acclaim in 1966 for the Miura sports coupé, which established rear mid-engine, rear wheel driveas the standard layout for high-performance cars of the era. Lamborghini grew rapidly during its first decade, but sales plunged in the wake of the 1973 worldwide financial downturn and the oil crisis. 

The firm's ownership changed three times after 1973, including a bankruptcy in 1978. American Chrysler Corporation took control of Lamborghini in 1987 and sold it to Malaysian investment group Mycom Setdco and Indonesian group V'Power Corporation in 1994. 

In 1998, Mycom Setdco and V'Power sold Lamborghini to the Volkswagen Group where it was placed under the control of the group's Audi division.

New products and model lines were introduced to the brand's portfolio and brought to the market and saw an increased productivity for the brand. In the late 2000s, during the worldwide financial crisis and the subsequent economic crisis, Lamborghini's sales saw a drop of nearly 50 percent.

Lamborghini produces sports cars and V12 engines for offshore powerboat racing. Lamborghini currently produces the V12-powered Aventador and the V10-powered Huracán along with the Urus SUV powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine.

Lamborghini was Made as a result of a Challenge from Enzo Ferrari

Lamborghini is now a direct competitor of the Ferrari in the field of luxury cars. Bizarrely, it is because of Enzo Ferrari that Lamborghini even exists. Lamborghini was running a successful agricultural vehicles business at the same time that Enzo Ferrari had established his cars as a top brand.

 Ferruccio was a huge fan of sports cars and owned a Ferrari 250 GT. One problem he had with this car was the clutch. Ferrari used agricultural clutches and Ferruccio did not like this, especially when it broke.

 He turned directly to Enzo about the problem and the two clashed. Enzo had a fiery temper and his response was that Ferrucchio should concentrate on tractors rather than concern himself with the workings of sports cars.

 As legend has it, Lamborghini took this as a personal challenge and decided to create his own sports car. Accepting the challenge was a risk that paid off.

Ferruccio Lamborghini Disagreed with Motor Racing Many luxury automobile manufacturers also have a racing team.

 For example, both Ferrari and Maserati have teams who compete in motor racing events. However, motor racing is something that Ferruccio Lamborghini has always disagreed with. The famous Italian engineer considered it a waste of time and resources and refused to start a racing team.

 This became a strict rule within the Lamborghini company. In recent years, this is something the company has had a rethink about and they have now developed a noticeable presence in the motor racing industry. They have collaborated with the Swiss watchmaker brand Blancpain to form Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A.

• Lamborghini test drivers have a saying, "Every Lamborghini comes with two problem: the speed limit and the police".

• In the mid-1950s, Ferruccio Lamborghini built an industrial empire by manufacturing farm tractors. With his wealth, Lamborghini bought a Ferrari but felt that it needed too many repairs. He had his tractor mechanic look at the problem and discovered his Ferrari used the same clutch as his tractor. Lamborghini decided to design a sports car that would out-do Ferrari.

• The first Lamborghini didn't even have an engine and yet it was unveiled.

• The Lamborghini has won a ton of offshore powerboat championships with their Motori Marini Lamborghini engines.

• Ferruccio Lamborghini chose the bull logo for Lamborghini because his astrological sign was Taurus. The factory also names many of its cars after fighting bulls, including the Miura, Diablo, Gallardo and the Murcielago.

• The factory situated in Sant'Agata Bolognese has an enormous and well-lit central building adjacent to the office building, so that the management can constantly monitor the production situation. This was ideal for Lamborghini, who would often roll up his shirtsleeves and go to work on the cars personally when he saw something that wasn’t done just the way he wanted.

• The factory actually provides two Lamborghini Gallardos to the Italian state police who use the sports car’s tiny luggage compartment for delivering organ transplants to needy patients.
